Nushka brings a selection of timeless, one-off, vintage pieces for the home. Nushka in Hindu word meaning “precious possession” Nushka offers a touch of styling inspiration when applying the finishing touch to a space.”
The soft Berber rugs are hand-woven using sheep wool and originate from the Atlas Mountains’ Berber Tribes in Morocco. Woven in the 1960’s and 1970’s, they were introduced to The West by Frank Lloyd Wright and stamped as “the white giants”. The Kantha cushions are made using the classic Indian stitching method – overstitched by hand in a contrasting thread using a kantha stitch. The bold and beautiful textured cotton Vintage Indigo fabrics are sourced from one village in Central America – each piece is unique and its tone tells its story with the indigo colours ranging from blue, plum to washed out azurite (blue). Lampshades are hand-made in the UK and the fabrics are sourced from varying parts of the world such as Turkey and India.
Nushka is the creation of husband and wife team, Farnoushe and Andrew Damonte.
Always having an eye for design, Farnoushe worked at the Conran Shop. Ever since her teens, Farnoushe has always been interested in textiles, design and colour. “I was particularly inspired by a shop that opened on Portobello Road in the late 80’s importing the most beautiful artefacts from India. That’s when the urge of travelling to India and the dream of starting a shop began.”
During a recent trip to India, Farnoushe and Andrew were inspired by the beautiful array of textiles that were on offer – whether new or just old, the symmetry, colours and haphazard motifs on Indian textiles have not changed over all these centuries. Andrew and Farnoushe enjoy working with designers and they love the new range of embroidery cushions from Lindell & Co designed by Gabrielle Soyer. They’re always on the look out for new, fresh inspirations!
