Suzani textiles

The Suzani hangings come from from Uzbekistan in central Asia and were a popular folk art in the preparation of dowry pieces. Each embroidery formed part of a suite made by a bride and her female relatives to be presented to the groom on their wedding day. Therefore, the patterns and motifs found on suzanis are symbols of luck, health, long life and fertility.
