Lampshade fitting guide
Lampshades come with different fittings, below is a guide to our lampshades and their fittings. Our lampshades fall into one of four categories. Lampshades measurements are taken from the base.
Clip on shades
These work with candle bulbs and are used mainly for wall lights and come in both 5” and 6” sizes.
Gimbal fitting
Our 8”, 10” and 12” lampshades have a Gimbal fitting. No shade carrier is needed, we supply gimbal fittings with plastic reducers if your lamp has a narrow UK bulb holder.
Duplex fitting
All our shades from 14” and above have a ‘Duplex’ fitting. The diagram shows how this works, shade carriers come in different sizes to allow for different shaped lamps, we usually recommend a 6” shade carrier as an average. We stock and sell these carriers separately. The cost of shades does not include the carrier; we supply gimbal fittings with plastic reducers if your lamp has a narrow UK bulb holder.
If you live in the USA or have a finial fitting lamp (see below), it is possible to use this adapter to convert a Duplex shade and allow it to be fitted to finial/harp fitting.
Finial fitting
Finial fitting shades (also known as Harp fittings in the USA) have a different way of fitting altogether, they fit onto a tube and a finial screws the shade into place. Finial shades therefore do not need a shade carrier.
