Some of the most sought after textiles from the East are the Caucasian embroideries. One of the most time consuming techniques, the surface darning creates embroideries with an incredible depth of colour, the yarns are all hand dyed in very small batches and incredibly only women produce the designs based on antique documents on small wooden hoops bit by bit, painstakingly over months.
